The Higher Secondary Certificate, also known as HSC,It stands for Higher Secondary Certificate. It is your +2 requirement after you complete your tenth class at school. Also referred to as the 12th class exams. A prerequisite to graduation. is a public examination taken by students in Bangladesh, Pakistan and in the states of West bengal, uttar pradesh , Andhra pradesh , Assam , Bihar , Chhattisgarh , Gujrat , Goa , Haryana , Himachal pradesh , Karnataka , Kerala , Madhya pradesh , Maharashtra , Manipur , Nagaland , Orrisa , Punjab , Rajasthan , Tamilnadu , Uttaranchal in India after successfully completing at least twelve years of schooling, that is two years after doing Secondary School Certificate (SSC). The examination structure differs from board to board. But in the most of the boards, they are subjective examinations. HSC is an equivalent to GCE A Level in England and AP and GED in the United States. Exams for this takes place twice a year in February-march and October-november.

After changing curriculum of standard X and XI from present academic session, the Maharashtra state board would be upgrading the same for class XII from the next academic session. The HSC syllabus would be based on the CBSE pattern, which will be a step forward in implementing uniform curriculum across the country."Major changes have been made in mathematics and science only," chairman of board Nagpur division Chandramani Borkar told TOI. He said the new syllabus would be a little tough for children, as it would be based on CBSE pattern, but it will help in raising the overall standard of education."Students should sail through easily, considering the fact that they will get 20 marks in the form of viva-voce exam in all subjects," Borkar said, adding that the first batch of students would appear for the exam based on new syllabus in 2015.Before this academic session, the Pune-based board had made some revolutionary changes in the syllabus of standard X and XI, with a view to prepare students for competitive examinations. TOI had reported the boardas new initiative in detail earlier. The board had made many changes in the testing and grading pattern of crucial subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics ( PCM), biology and statistics for standard XI. Similar changes were made in science and mathematics (algebra and geometry) for standard X. The students appearing in standard XI will be tested by junior colleges through viva-voce and seminars.The board had taken some revolutionary steps from this year under new chairperson Ujwala Patil, like announcing dates of SSC and HSC examinations at the start of new academic session. Even the process of exam form filling had been made online, the Nagpur division chief said. He, however, ruled out the possibility of starting grading system in the state board results, saying that it would not be a viable option.
